Registration for .XXX domain names has opened on Sept. 7. Below is a quick cheat sheet for both adult Web sites and non-adult Web sites for the launch of the .XXX top-level domain (TLD).

Sept. 7 to Oct. 28

Adult Web Sites:

Those who have a registered trademark in current use or own a domain name in another TLD (e.g. .com) can register that trademark or domain name in the .XXX TDL.

Non-Adult Web Sites:

Those who have a registered trademark in current use can register to permanently take that trademark off the .XXX market.

Registering in this period only requires a one-time fee. Registering to protect one's trademark after Dec 6 will require recurring fees.

In the event that both an adult entity and non-adult entity have a legitimate claim to a domain name, the adult business will take priority and acquire the .XXX domain name.

Nov. 8 to Nov. 25

Adult Web Sites:

Those wanting to register .XXX domain names may do so without any claims of registered trademarks or domain names in other TLD.

At the end of the period, if more than one party registers for the same .XXX domain name, an auction will be held.

Starting from Dec 6

Adult Web Sites:

.XXX domain names will be available on a first come, first served basis, without the need for any claims of registered trademarks or domain names in other TLD.

Non-Adult Web Sites:

Requests to take .XXX domain names off the market will be open without the need for a registered trademark in current use.

However, there is a recurring fee to keep them off the market.
