Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) said Thursday that it will acquire the college and high school sports website Rivals.com, bolstering its current top rated sports offerings.

Terms of the conditions were not disclosed.

We are bringing together two of the leading brands in online sports and I look forward to further developing the most vibrant sports community online, Rivals Chief Executive Shannon Terry said in a statement.

Rivals.com has developed an avid base of sports fans since it was founded in 2001. It operates 105 college team sites and another 48 regional sites for high school fans to track local sports.

Rivals generates revenue primarily through advertising and subscriptions.

Yahoo, the world's most visited portal site, believes that Rivals will allow it to engage a highly educated consumer, according to a statement. It also sees potential in expanding the core base of the site to reach a younger audience through high school sports.

Rivals.com will function as an independent unit within Yahoo! Sports, which attracts a monthly audience of 15 million visitors, according comScore Inc.
