Zoe Saldana Picked As Lead For NBC Miniseries 'Rosemary's Baby'

Actress Zoe Saldana will play the lead in NBC's upcoming miniseries, “Rosemary’s Baby,” which is adapted from the 1967 best-selling suspense novel of the same name by Ira Levin.

The novel was adapted into a film in 1968, which was written and directed by Roman Polanski, and the part of Rosemary was played by Mia Farrow.

Saldana, the “Star Trek” and “Avatar” actress, will play the role of Rosemary, who moves with her husband into an apartment in Paris, which is later found to have a haunted past. As time passes, Rosemary becomes suspicious as she mysteriously becomes pregnant and is convinced that her secretive neighbors may have some evil designs on her unborn child.

NBC’s Quinn Taylor reportedly described Saldana as “one of our most gifted actresses. We think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel.”

“With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this re-imagined event miniseries is off to great start,” he added.

According to reports, NBC announced the adaptation in December. But, unlike the famed Polanski movie, which was set in New York City, the NBC version will be set in Europe.

The miniseries will be directed by Holland and the screenplay will be written by Scott Abbott, a writer best known for “Queen of the Damned” and James Wong, producer and writer of “Final Destination.”
