A blast at Iran's Abadan's oil refinery during President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit killed one person and injured more than 20 on Tuesday.

“The technical faults at the plant were well known to everyone and the incident was not an act of intentional sabotage,” Hamid-Reza Katouzian, head of Iran's parliamentary energy committee told Reuters.

Experts had already warned that the refinery was not ready to be inaugurated, Katouzian said.

Blast occurred during President Ahmadinejad’s visit to inaugurate a new gasoline producing project in Abadan Refinery.

People who were injured and poisoned due to the emission of poisonous gas were sent to a hospital in Ahvaz, the capital city of Khouzestan province, the report said.

“The fire was immediately controlled by the firefighters,” a Mehr news agency report said.

Last year also Iran's oil refineries reported several accidental explosions.
