Adam Sandler's new comedy Grown Ups has knocked Sylvester Stallone's latest mercenary action movie off the UK box office top spot after just one week, according to Screen International on Wednesday.

The story of five boyhood friends meeting up years later took a relatively modest 2 million pounds on its debut but that was enough to keep another newcomer, romantic comedy Scott Pilgrim vs the World, down in second spot.

Toy Story 3 stayed at three, with Stallone's The Expendables down in fourth place.

Angelina Jolie as a CIA agent in Salt fell three places to five, just above horror movie Piranha 3D which was down at six from four with its prehistoric killer fish wreaking havoc during Spring Break.

Sci-fi thriller Inception, with Leonardo DiCaprio, slipped a place to seven while Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the film version of Jeff Kinney's best-selling books, was new at eight.

The re-release of Avatar came in at nine and family dog caper Marmaduke, slipped to 10 from five.
