KEY POINTS

  • Alex Caruso is Lakers' breakout star this season
  • He averaged a career-high last year with 9.2 points per game
  • Lakers signs him on a two-year, $5.5 million deal in the offseason

Alex Caruso’s net worth is around $1 million in 2019. With his continued play this season, he could be in for a bigger contract extension soon.

According to Lakers Nation, Caruso signed a two-year deal worth $5.5 million in the offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers rewarded him with a fine NBA contract due to his loyalty and career-high averages last season. He posted 9.2 points per game, on top of 2.7 rebounds per game.

The Lakers have revamped their roster to increase chances of the LeBron James-led team winning another Larry O'Brien trophy and The King, his fourth championship. The inclusion of Anthony Davis, Danny Green, Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee in the lineup lessened Caruso’s playing time but he always gives his all when his number is called.

Make no mistake about it: This dude can play even if it looks like he can’t. He posted his career high 41 points in 2017. In April 2019, he recorded 32 points. The players who have been on the other end of his highlights are James Harden, Devin Booker, Kawhi Leonard, Luka Doncic and Jamal Murray.

The 6’5” dunk machine can also play defense and shoot outside. His versatility is crucial to the Lakers to boost the bench when star players rest.

Outside basketball, Caruso has been drawing interest from fans who recognize him now. He admits being surprised when fans approach him in the streets asking for a picture or telling him they know him.

He has been called different nicknames such as The Bald Eagle, The Bald Mamba and The CaruShow. He does not look like the prototype NBA player but more like a high school teacher or an accountant even, as some may say. In a report from Bleacher Report, the shooting guard claims he sees it funny he plays for one of the NBA’s most popular teams. "I think I fit a market like San Antonio or Charlotte or Milwaukee, where it's a little more low-key," he added.

His average salary will be $2,750,000 until 2021. After that, he becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. When that time comes, Caruso is free to join any team who will reward him with a bigger deal. If he can increase his offensive output consistently, it is expected that he can demand a longer deal in the NBA market. If the Lakers goes on to win the chip this season, the team would likely reward their core with bonus and contract extensions.
