  • Lionel Messi reportedly wants Lautaro Martinez in Barcelona
  • Barca is urged not to just yield to Messi's demands amidst their struggles
  • Barcelona is bracing for a tough Champions League match against Napoli next

Lionel Messi has never been so open about his demands as he attempts to force a massive reconstruction in Barcelona following the Spanish club’s lackluster campaign this season. But despite the Argentine superstar being the most influential figure at Camp Nou, the Catalans are urged not to easily give in to his wish list as it could spell more disaster for the La Liga giants moving forward.

Ranoveer Neogi of Everything Barca specifically pointed out Messi’s request to sign fellow Argentine stalwart Lautaro Martinez. In fairness, the club’s management has also tagged the Inter Milan striker as their top priority in the transfer market. However, the 22-year-old has struggled to find his groove since the start of the year; therefore, pulling off such a move stirs up the worry that it would simply replicate the Blaugrana’s previous mistakes as it could defeat the purpose of redemption while wasting a huge amount of money.

“Since the start of 2020, Martinez has scored just five times which is quite a shocking figure given all the hype and how highly rated the player is. Barcelona has already made far too many mistakes in the transfer market and Lautaro Martinez could be the next one,” Neogi wrote.

“The ideal option for Barca would be to wait for another season to see whether Martinez is not a one-season wonder as many now believe so. Just because Lionel Messi wants his national teammate at the club does not mean that it must happen.

“The Blaugrana have already made ample mistakes in the transfer market including the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann, and Ousmane Dembele. Barca cannot afford to make another blunder by paying 90 million euros for a one-season wonder.”

Messi and Barcelona are bracing for a tough second leg of the Champions League in August after they fail to capture the La Liga title that went in favor of Real Madrid.

Despite the setback, Barcelona could bank on momentum heading to the European joust as the club still ended the league season on a high note, winning 5-0 over Alaves with Messi netting two goals and assisting one.
