The New York Rangers are one of seven teams remaining in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. Trailing their second-round series with the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1, New York faces an uphill climb in making a deep championship run.

Can the Rangers win the Stanley Cup? The odds are against New York, more so than all but one other team in the playoffs.

The Rangers have +2000 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the 2022 Stanley Cup. The only bigger long shot in the NHL is the St. Louis Blues, which have +8000 championship odds. The Blues trail the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 in their series.

Five playoff teams are given at least twice as good of a chance as the Rangers to win this year’s championship. The Calgary Flames are well ahead of the Rangers with +950 Stanley Cup odds.

Calgary has a 2-1 series lead over the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton has +900 Stanley Cup odds before Game 4.

Colorado is the clear Stanley Cup favorite with +140 odds. The Tampa Bay Lightning have +260 odds as the only team that has advanced to the conference finals. Tampa Bay swept the No. 1 seed Florida Panthers, seeking the NHL’s first three-peat in four decades.

Carolina maintained home-ice advantage by defeating New York in Games 1 and 2. The Rangers nearly stole the series opener on the road, coming up short in a 2-1 overtime loss.

The Rangers held serve in their first home game, holding off the Hurricanes 3-1. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin saved 43 of Carolina’s 44 shots on goal.

Shesterkin was the NHL’s best goalie in the regular season, leading the sport with a .935 save percentage and 2.07 goals allowed per game. After a few shaky performances in the Rangers’ first-round seven-game win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Shesterkin is back to playing like a goalie that can potentially carry a team to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Only the Hurricanes allowed fewer goals than the Rangers in the regular season. New York’s offense will have to step up if the team hopes to pull off the upset and reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Rangers have +250 odds to outlast the Hurricanes and clinch a matchup with the Lightning. Carolina is a -315 favorite to win the series.

The Rangers haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1994.
