After Yuri Zhirkov's departure back home to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, Andre Villas-Boas is attempting to bring in Alvaro Pereira, according to the Daily Mail, whom he worked with during his time at Porto.

However, newly-rich Paris Saint Germain are also on his tail, and Chelsea recently lost out to the French side in the pursuit of Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore. Furthermore, the player, who is a favourite at Porto, won't come in cheap. He has a £25 million buy-out clause.

After impressive displays in Copa America, Liverpool enquired about the player but was deterred by his £15 million asking price. Though Chelsea will consider that price, the interest of PSG will allow Porto to begin an auction between the two sides.

Drogba has interested AC Milan according, to the Daily Mail report.

The report also went on to suggest that AC Milan were considering a bid for Chelsea striker Drogba, though the player is currently on the verge of signing a contract extension.

Elsewhere, Luka Modric's Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp reiterated on Saturday that the midfielder was going nowhere and on Monday, his teammate Rafael Van der Vaart expressed his delight that 25-year-old would remain at Spurs this season.

"I'm really happy that Luka is going to stay he's an important player for us," he told Sky Sports News. "Almost every day we ask him to stay and say, 'Have a great season - then you can go!'

"The chairman always said he's going to stay and there's no question about it. I understand that he was a little bit disappointed but in a few weeks he's going to be happy here."

Chelsea are also, reportedly, interested in Ghanaian defender Samuel Inkoom. The club's scouting chief Michael Emenalo is said to be an admirer of the player and is keenly watching his progress as he is about to face Nigeria at Watford's ground Vicarage Road.

The Daily Mirror has claimed that Inkoom's club, Ukrainian side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, have put the player on sale and have valued him at £6 million. Other Premier League sides are also interested in the player, including Fulham and Aston Villa.

Finally, Chelsea are set to announce 18-year-old whiz-kid Romelu Lukaku as their latest signing after the Belgian passed his medical at Stamford Bridge on Monday. Such is the player's elation at finally joining his favourite club that when asked of his feelings by a television reporter, he replied saying, "this is the most beautiful day of my life."
