Alabama was expected to be the best team in the 2017 college football season. The Crimson Tide have somehow exceeded those expectations with a dominant 8-0 start, and they are now odds-on favorites to win the national championship.

The latest betting odds at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook have Alabama as 2-3 favorites to win the College Football Playoff. Ohio State is second, following their win over Penn State, with 3-1 odds. Clemson (8-1) is also favored to reach the four-team postseason.

After reaching the national title game in each of the last two seasons, Alabama has run through the SEC with five conference wins by an average of 42 points. The Crimson Tide are favored by three touchdowns in their upcoming matchup with No.19 LSU, via OddsShark.

The final playoff berth could come down to Georgia and Notre Dame. The Bulldogs are one of five remaining unbeaten teams with a matchup against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game likely in their future. The Fighting Irish have only lost to Georgia, and they’ve got three victories against teams that are currently ranked.

Penn State might have seen their hopes of going to the College Football Playoff disappear when they blew a 15-point fourth quarter lead to Ohio State. Undefeated Wisconsin is likely to meet the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game with a chance to punch their ticket to the postseason on the line.

Eleven teams in total, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Washington and Miami have 30-1 odds or better to win the College Football Playoff. Notre Dame began the season with the lowest expectations of the group, opening the year with 60-1 national title odds.
