  • Nani says Cristiano Ronaldo is considering retirement in the U.S.
  • Nani is looking forward to his second season with Orlando City
  • Ronaldo suffered two straight finals losses for the first time in his career

Cristiano Ronaldo might not play his final year in Europe. This was the revelation of Ronaldo's ex-teammate Nani, who bared that the Juventus superstar is open to the possibility of staging his swansong in the United States as he mulls over playing in the MLS.

"A couple of years ago, he told me that he will probably end up in America," Nani told ESPN. "It's not 100 %, but probably. There is a chance."

Nani and Ronaldo had been teammates both at the club and international levels. They have played together for Manchester United from 2007 to 2009 and have represented the Portuguese National Team in several competitions.

Nani currently plays for Orlando City in the MLS after he signed a three-year Designated Player deal in 2019. The veteran winger has made quite an impression in his first season as captain of the Florida-based soccer club, notching 12 goals in 30 appearances. But although it did not translate to success for his club, the 33-year-old still appeared satisfied after his first year playing in the states.

"It is a great league," he said. "Obviously there are points where we must improve as a league, even in the quality of the players.

"Here you have fantastic clubs, well organized with fantastic conditions, great coaches, great players. You see every season improving.

"I think we all have the conditions in this league. We are in a great country. Everything is around us. It is all about being better, not being afraid to improve."

The speculated plan to move to America may not be the focus right now for Ronaldo, who is just coming off a heart-breaking loss to Napoli in the Coppa Italia Final on Wednesday.

The Bianconeri suffered a 4-2 setback in the penalty shootout after Paulo Dybala and Danilo failed to convert in their respective attempts.

It was a night to forget for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner as the loss served him a second straight finals defeat for the first time in his career.

The Old Lady will have to pick up their bearings immediately with the restart of the Serie A waiting next. Their first game back is set on June 22 where they will face Bologna.
