A mother killed her three-week-old daughter by accidentally sleeping over her after getting drunk in Lusaka, Zambia, on Saturday night.

Mirriam Kalonda drunk a lot with her friends who visited her home Saturday. She then accidentally slept over her daughter and got up later in the night to see the baby dead.

Her husband, Richard Kalonda, who worked in the night shift, reached home the following morning and heard the news of his daughter’s demise. He then asked his wife to give up drinking and warned he would divorce her after she refused the request.

Mirriam tried to kill herself post the incident and was under medical observation. Richard alerted police about the incident and urged them to arrest his wife for recklessness and unacceptable behavior that killed their child, the Zambian Observe reported.

In a similar incident earlier this month, a New Jersey mother was charged after she rolled over her 13-month-old son while overdosing on a drug, killing him. Antoinette King was found passed out by the child’s grandmother, who also found the child unconscious.

She immediately called the police, who reached the home and unsuccessfully tried reviving the boy with CPR. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead due to suffocation. The mother was charged with second degree endangering the welfare of a child.

In a similar incident in April 2018, a Cleveland mother accidentally shot her 2-year-old girl while handling a gun, killing the child. She then called 911 and said "She's gone. My baby's gone. She's not breathing at all. She's gone." The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. Police said the death was accidental after investigation revealed the bullet went through a mattress and struck the child in the chest.

"She wasn’t pointing the gun at somebody, she had the gun off to her side. I think, unbeknownst to her, the child was moving and moved into the line of fire," Wickliffe Police Lt. Pat Hengst said, News 5 Cleveland reported.
