  • Thiago Silva is one of PSG's best defenders
  • It is anticipated that Silva will leave the team after the summer
  • Former striker Frederic Piquionne shared some high praises for Silva

The impact that Thiago Silva has had for Paris Saint-Germain has been tremendous. With the news of him set to leave the club after the team's UEFA Champions League knockout stage, former striker Frederic Piquionne shared some high praises for the star defender.

Per PSG Talk, Piquionne emphasized how important Silva’s influence was for the team. It didn’t matter if it was on the field or in the locker room, Silva was a prominent figure for the club.

“His aura in the locker room, which he has been doing for eight years and during his career is something extraordinary,” Piquionne said.

During his stint with PSG, Silva has made a total of 310 appearances that is good enough to secure 17 goals and five assists. The former Italian champion has secured himself as one of the team’s best defenders and leaders for the club.

“The experience of a locker room [leader] like that, no one can do without,” Piquionne added.

Throughout his entire career, Silva has made it a point to constantly provide the much-needed energy for his squad. With excellent anticipation and timing, Silva has consistently proven how big of an asset he is for any club to have. Known as a defensive specialist, Silva has averaged overall numbers of 1.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2.7 clearances per outing.

Having someone of Silva’s caliber has assisted PSG into greater heights for the past eight years with the way he leads the team. Young stars such as Kylian Mbappe have formed a good relationship with Silva. The experience the veteran brings to the team has played a big part in forming the team’s chemistry.

“Extending him for a season, it would have been a good thing if he had agreed to have a little bit of playing time and lowered his salary,” Piquionne shared.

The Brazilian defender turns 36 in September and has made a career for being one of the highest-rated defenders in the world.

It would have been a dream for PSG to continue their time with Silva, as the icon has been part of a lot of the club’s success. It would be interesting to see how PSG moves forward with their lineup without their star defender.
