  • Silva made 315 appearances for PSG across eight seasons

Frank Lampard has hailed Chelsea’s new signing, Thiago Silva for his "perfect" debut during The Blues’ 6-0 win over Barnsley in the League Cup.

Silva missed Chelsea’s first two games of the 2020-21 Premier League but got the opportunity to play for good 60 minutes at Stamford Bridge Wednesday.

The 36-year-old Brazilian, who helped Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) reach the Champions League final last season, is still working on gaining full witness and has been given the time off to do so.

In a post-match interview, Chelsea boss Lampard admitted that it is "exciting" for them to have Silva in the squad.

"Yes, it is exciting for us because he has had just over a week training with us. It was a perfect 60 minutes for him tonight. "He will show the qualities he has. Of course, he will get fitter and better. He also gave us something for me on the night in the dressing room and on the pitch of a leader with authority in terms of his demands on others," Goal quoted Lampard, as saying.

The former Chelsea star, who was appointed as the club’s head coach in 2019, also praised Silva’s leadership skills on and off the field.

“He can’t speak the language but, at the minute. that’s not even a problem because his presence and the way he commands people around him is already showing that to me in training and in our game tonight. Yes, I am very very pleased with Thiago. It is what I expected of a player of his level but it is very refreshing to have him here at the club,” added Chelsea manager in the same post-match interview.

Ahead of the 2020-21 season, Silva ended his eight-year association with PSG and moved to Chelsea on a free transfer. PSG’s 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the final of the Champions League was his last appearance for the Ligue 1 champions.

The Brazilian center-back won seven league titles with PSG in eight campaigns apart from various other trophies. Although he ended his PSG journey with a heartbreaking loss, he still had a memorable run in France, having made 315 competitive appearances for PSG.
