This year's iPhones have finally been revealed. SlashGear

The iPhone 12 isn't something that you see too often, and Apple knows it. It's the kind of device that breaks the mold, is built on some new technology, and will eventually be the pattern by which all future iPhone generations will be based on, at least that's where the trend seems to be going.

You'll be happy to know, then, that the new iPhone is something that a lot of people are going to get their hands on. The new iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have an attractive new design, a straightforward and integrated 5G solution (something we desperately wanted to see in last year's iPhones), stellar cameras and faster performance.

You can pre-order both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro on BestBuy right now and they both come with all of the big 3 carriers for your convenience. Read on to get the full teardown of the latest and greatest Apple mobile devices.

A blast from the past

Apple, unlike other high-end phone manufacturers, doesn't really like to introduce massive changes to their flagships, so this year's redesign -- and we do mean redesign -- turned a lot of heads when they unveiled it at last week's launch event. The regular iPhone's back panel sports a glossy finish with matching stainless steel sides while the pro variant has a frosted glass back with a sand-blasted aluminum side frame, which makes it less prone to fingerprints.

The new generation of iPhones is sporting a new (yet old) flat edge design which harkens back to the days of the iPhone 5. It's honestly refreshing to see, especially for those who didn't like the cured revolution that the iPhone 6 brought. Still not convinced? Take a look below.

It's definitely refreshing to see Apple revisiting old designs and give them a modern twist. The iPhone 12 feels substantial and premium, and not necessarily any less luxurious than the iPhone 12 Pro. And to boot, both the standard and pro versions are exactly the same size, which is a first for any iPhone generation with a pro variant.

You even get the same IP86 rating here as in the Pro (20 feet for 30 minutes) which far exceeds other handsets on the market, as well as a crystal-infused Ceramic Shield material protecting the display, which Apple estimates to be four times more shatter-proof than previous phones -- a claim we look forward to seeing in action soon.

MagSafe

While magnetism continues to be a mysterious force, Apple has found a way to make them a vital feature of the iPhone 12’s design. A ring of magnets centrally placed on the back of the iPhone 12 enables Apple’s new MagSafe ecosystem of accessories, from wireless chargers to cases and wallet attachments that simply snap on and off.

It's still going to take more third-party involvement and before we really see MagSafe's true potential. Exhibit A: Apple’s leather wallet attachment. It’s a clever idea, and it's definitely going to be a hot item. But the magnets within the iPhone 12 aren’t quite strong enough to keep the wallet securely in place. Nevertheless, It's exciting to see where Apple will take this technology moving forward.

5G capabilities

Virtually every flagship is coming out 5G-ready, and you don’t even really need to pay more for the privilege anymore. Apple, however, has thought of a few more things than just slapping in 5G antennas.

Whereas the vast majority of 5G handsets support only one kind of 5G and not another, or only the specific bands necessary to work on a certain network, the iPhone 12 goes all out. It is built to run on the most bands of any 5G phone, which means a greater chance of 5G coverage, especially in these early days of the technology where the coverage isn't all that great. What’s more, the iPhone 12 works on both sub-6GHz 5G -- the nationwide 5G that has formed the backbone of T-Mobile and AT&T’s service as of yet -- in addition to much faster and shorter-range millimeter-wave 5G, like what Verizon focused on deploying in U.S. cities.

iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max

These 2 extreme ends of the iPhone spectrum are definitely something to look forward to. The Mini variant offers all the great upgrades in a very compact package while the Pro Max is, of course, the big daddy of the lineup.

They're not exactly available for pre-order right now. But they're slated to go live on BestBuy on Nov. 6. Make sure to bookmark the links above so you don't miss out on getting your new iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max.

Indeed, the iPhone 12 is still very much worth buying, and clearly, is a more compelling and valuable offer than its predecessor ever was. With the new design, 5G, improved cameras and the new MagSafe technology, the Techtober rush just got a whole lot more exciting and we're excited to see what other companies have in store for the rest of the year.
