The Holi festival is here. Also known as the festival of spring, love and colors, the Hindu celebration is held each year not only in India but also in many parts of the globe to welcome the arrival of spring and mark the end of winter.

Celebrated traditionally for two days, Holi is also regarded as the victory of good over evil and an opportunity to start anew. People from various communities come together to eat, dance and celebrate the feeling of love in general, according to The Indian Express. Through this holiday, people are given the chance to forgive others for their mistakes and repair relationships.

The Holi festival also celebrates the Hindu god Krishna and the legend of Holika and Prahlad. Participants usually throw colored powder and water at each other during the two-day event—a tradition that is believed to stem from Krishna throwing colored water at people when he was a boy, BBC reported.
