Police have identified a 39-year-old woman as a suspect in the death of her 64-year-old mother. The victim was found dead inside her home, with "possible signs of trauma."

Officers found the elderly woman's body during a welfare check at her home in West Harris County Monday morning, reported Click 2 Houston.

According to Houston police, the victim's daughter, Kristen Woods, has been named a suspect. She was, however, arrested on an unrelated charge and has been lodged in Harris County jail.

According to Sgt. Dennis Wolfford of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies who arrived at the victim's house noticed a large amount of trash in the front yard. They entered the house, upon which they stumbled on the body which showed "possible signs of trauma." The woman's body was found lying in a pool of blood.

Though police have not identified the woman yet, her neighbor identified her as "Mary." She had been living in the house for more than 40 years.

Sandra Fresh, the neighbor, said that she was a "sweet woman" who had three daughters. "She knew everything that was going on the street because we all know each other. She had three daughters, she would do anything for her daughters," Fresh told ABC 13.

According to neighbors, Woods had a history of questionable behavior, and they were worried for Mary.

"My husband said, 'Mary we are so afraid for you,' and she would say, 'No, that's my daughter. She wouldn't hurt me,'" Fresh told the news outlet. She added that her entire street is just devastated. "Mary was a wonderful person, a wonderful person. And she will be greatly missed. She's part of our neighborhood, our family," Fresh told the outlet.

Meanwhile, Wolford told ABC 13 that Woods had been staying there with the victim. "After we conclude on our scene investigation, we will be going to talk to her and see what happened to her mother," he added.

Last month, a similar incident was reported in Pennsylvania wherein a man was arrested for murdering his mother. The woman's body was found at her home in Berks County. Police said the man killed his mother and stole her car to go buy heroin.
