  • Ian Book signed a $4.15 million contract with the Saints
  • The quarterback will get an annual bonus of $168,400 for four years
  • His salary will increase every year

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Ian Book, who played college football for the University of Notre Dame, took the field for his NFL debut Monday night.

He joined NFL after being selected by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Under the $4.15 million contract he signed with the Saints, the 23-year-old is set to receive a $660,000 base salary and a $168,396 signing bonus for 2021 alone, according to Spotrac.

While the bonus he will get for the four-year period is fixed, the quarterback’s salary will increase every year.

In 2022, Book will be paid an average annual salary of $825,000. He will receive $940,000 for 2023, and for his fourth year, he will get $1.055 million for playing for the Saints.

His salary is lower than that of cornerback Paulson Adebo, who also signed with the team this year. Adebo's annual salary is $660,000 for his first year, but this will increase to $1.347 million in his final year. Adebo’s bonus is also higher at $256,429 every year.

Book’s base salary is also lower than that of Adam Trautman, a tight end for New Orleans who signed a four-year contract with the Saints in 2020.

According to the outlet, while Trautman earned only $610,000 in salary for his first year in 2020, he will get $1.094 million in 2023, the final year of his current contract. Trautman’s annual bonus is also reportedly higher at $208,074 annually.

Book is the fourth quarterback to start for the Saints this season after starter Taysom Hill and backup Trevor Siemian both joined the COVID-19 list, along with seven other Saints players.

At Notre Dame, Book had a 64% completion percentage and totaled 8,948 yards, 72 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

He also rushed for 17 touchdowns and 1,517 yards on 361 carries. Notre Dame made the College Football Playoff twice during Book's tenure in 2018 and 2020.
