Jimmy Hayes, who played seven NHL seasons, has passed away at the age of 31. How much did he earn in his professional hockey career before his death?

Hayes played in the NHL from 2011 to 2018, with stints in the Chicago Blackhawks, New Jersey Devils and his hometown team the Boston Bruins. In his seven-year career, the former NHL forward earned a little over $10 million from his hockey salary and bonuses, according to Spotrac.

Hayes was initially drafted into the NHL by the Toronto Maple Leafs as the 60th overall pick in the second round of the 2008 draft. He helped the Boston College hockey team emerge victorious in the 2010 NCAA championship, scoring 35 points (13 goals and 22 assists) in 42 games as a sophomore, according to NHL.com.

Hayes was traded to the Blackhawks, where he signed a three-year, $2.625 million contract in 2011. Two years later, he moved on to the Panthers and signed a one-year, $925,000 contract with the team in 2014.

Hayes then transferred to the Bruins in 2015 after signing a three-year, $6.9 million deal with his hometown team. After being released via buyout in 2017, he signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with the Devils.

After the end of that deal, Hayes went on to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2018 under a one-year, $650,000 contract. He retired the following year as a member of the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Hayes recorded 109 points (54 goals, 55 assists) in 334 career games during his time in the NHL. He also won a silver medal with Team USA in the 2007 Under-18 World Junior Championship, a silver at the 2009 U-20s and a silver in the 2014 World Championships, playing alongside his brother, Kevin Hayes, for Team USA.

The professional athlete was known for his massive size, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 215 pounds.

Hayes was pronounced dead Monday morning by police and first responders at his Milton, Massachusetts, home, a law enforcement official told The Boston Globe.

Authorities said they did not suspect any foul play in his death. A cause of death has not yet been released.

Hayes and his wife, Kristen, recently celebrated the second birthday of their elder son, Beau. The former NHL star’s demise also came only three months after his second son, Mac, was born on May 5.
