  • His new contract gives him $23 million guaranteed

J.J. Watt surprised every football fan today after revealing that he signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Here’s how much Watt's new contract is worth and how much he has earned throughout his football career.

Watt tweeted a photo of him wearing a Cardinals shirt even before the move was officially announced by the NFL team. While the figures of the deal were not disclosed by both parties, an ESPN source revealed that the new contract is worth $31 million with $23 million guaranteed.

His move to the Cardinals will see him reuniting with former Houstoon Texans defensive back coach Vance Joseph.

Fans are looking forward to Watt’s joining the Cardinals. He is expected to be paired with fellow pass-rusher Chandler Jones.

Before signing with the Cardinals, the University of Wisconsin alumni was an unrestricted free agent after being released by the Houston Texans on Feb. 12. He was part of the Texans for 10 seasons. In his decade-long stay with Houston, he has earned more than $100 million, according to Spotrac.

The Cardinals deal adds more viability for Watt and his fortune. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that the football player is worth $50 million. In 2014, he signed a six-year deal worth $100 million with the Texans, with a $10 million signing bonus. The deal was unusual for a non-quarterback and made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL.

Aside from his stint in the NFL, he also has several investments. Watt was reported to have acquired a Wisconsin log cabin in 2016 worth $800,000. A year later he put up his Pearland, Texas home for sale with a $465,000 price tag.
