Jurgen Klopp has given a positive injury update as he sees "light at the end of the tunnel" ahead of Liverpool FC's clash with Newcastle United.

Liverpool have suffered quite a few injury setbacks recently when the 2022-23 campaign went underway with players including Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara, and Naby Keita, among others who are currently ruled out.

Center-back Joel Matip and midfielder Curtis Jones were involved in the team training on Monday as Klopp's side is gearing up for a home game against the Magpies, which is going to be played on Wednesday.

The Reds are on a high following their recent 9-0 triumph over Bournemouth at Anfield, which marked their maiden victory of the 2022-23 Premier League.

Portuguese forward Jota, who has been a fine signing under Klopp, suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty in the summer. He had another setback during a pre-season training session and ever since has not trained with the team.

Jota is expected to return to training with the Reds Thursday, Klopp confirmed in a pre-match conference on Tuesday. He also mentioned that second-choice Caoimhin Kelleher has also begun training with the goalkeepers.

"I think Diogo can train from Thursday on and Thiago I think slightly later, so we will see. Calvin is getting closer, Caoimh I saw now only walking outside going for normal goalkeeper training. So yeah, there's light at the end of the tunnel, definitely," Klopp told reporters.

Jota's return will further boost Liverpool's attack. He was one of the only three Reds players to have scored 20 or more goals last term. Jota finished the season with 21 goals, behind Mohamed Salah (31 goals), and Sadio Mane (23 goals).

However, the trio of Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are not close to making a comeback as they are still recovering from their respective injuries.

The upcoming game against Newcastle is also going to be summer signing Darwin Nunez's final match of his three-game suspension. He was slapped with a straight red card for head butting a player during Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

As a result, he missed Liverpool's 2-1 loss at Manchester United and an incredible 9-0 triumph at home against Bournemouth.
