He signed an extension for 2 years worth $66 million to play for the Astros. With a salary of $33 million for one year, Verlander is considered one of the highest paid starting pitchers in the league. Per Spotrac, his deal involves a no-trade clause and he will become a free agent in 2022. Also, the contract stipulates bonuses if he wins any of the following: Cy Young, All-Star, World Series MVP or Golden Glove.

What makes him one of the highest paid is he still delivers one of the fastest balls in MLB. The 37-year-old is one of the most decorated pitchers in the history of the sport. He is a 2-time Cy Young award recipient and virtually won everything in 2011 including AL TSN Pitcher of the Year, The Sporting News Player of the Year Award, and Most Outstanding American League pitcher, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

On the personal side, he is married to supermodel Kate Upton, who has an estimated net worth of $20 million. The couple welcomed their child in 2018. The in-demand print model has graced the covers of magazines such as Sports Illustrated. Upton also collaborated with David Yurman and Bobbi Brown and walked the runway for Burberry, Chanel, Mulberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Jason Wu. Meanwhile, her husband, Verlander, is also a brand magnet with Breitling, GlaxoSmithKline, Rawlings, Supercuts, Under Armour and USAA as some of his sponsors.

The lefty pitcher knows how to give back when needed. He donated a total of $939,000 to Hurricane Harvey survivors in 2017. A true legend on and off the field, Verlander continues to make history and break records even at the tail end of his Hall of Fame career.
