League Cup: Liverpool Offer Divock Origi Update Ahead Of Leicester Clash
KEY POINTS
- Divock Origi scored a winner for Liverpool in 2 straight games
- Origi picked up an injury in training last week
- Liverpool last won the League Cup in 2011-12
Liverpool FC have offered an update on forward Divock Origi ahead of their League Cup game against Leicester City.
Origi, who missed Liverpool’s last three games, will once again be absent when the Reds take the field at Anfield against Leicester, confirmed Reds’ assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.
"He [Origi] is still not training with the team so we will miss him," Lijnders was quoted by Liverpool’s official website, as saying in a pre-match conference.
Before being sidelined, Origi was in great form. Although he was yet to start a league game for Liverpool in the 2021-22 season, he had a few fine moments in the past few weeks. He had scored a winner for Liverpool in two back-to-back games: 1-0 vs Wolves and 2-1 vs AC Milan.
Ahead of Steven Gerrard’s return to Anfield as Aston Villa’s manager, Origi picked up a knee injury during training and has not played since then.
"Divock is not in the squad; he had some problems in training yesterday. He started, I don't think it's anything serious; he's just not ready," Klopp said before Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Villa earlier this month.
🗣️ Klopp: "Divock is not in the squad; he had some problems in training yesterday. He started, I don't think it's anything serious; he's just not ready. We look for a solution, and we play Oxlade in a false 9, and we see. I'm really excited for the opportunity." #LFC

So far this campaign, Origi has netted five goals and two assists in as many as 10 appearances for Liverpool, across all competitions.

Coming on the back of four consecutive wins in the league, Liverpool were held at a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur and as a result, Jurgen Klopp’s side fell three points behind table-toppers Manchester City.
Liverpool are very much alive in every competition this season and Klopp is expected to field a strong side in the quarter-final match against Leicester in the League Cup on Wednesday.
With eight titles each, Liverpool and Man City have won the League Cup more times than any other club in England. The last time Liverpool won the competition was back in the 2011-12 season.
