  • Liverpool lost to Aston Villa 7-2 in their previous Premier League matchup
  • Jurgen Klopp texted his players a “long, long message” after the match
  • The Reds will look to bounce back against Everton on Saturday

Liverpool’s 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa in their Oct. 4 Premier League matchup was a tough situation to handle for the Reds. This prompted manager Jurgen Klopp to reach out to his players in order for them to regain their confidence as a champion team.

The loss happened right before the international break as players flew out to their teams to participate in the UEFA Nations League. Klopp had to resort to sending his players a text message to properly debrief the loss, Goal reported.

"The night after the game was not the best night of my life but I got up in the morning and I knew I had to speak to my boys but they were not here," Klopp told BBC Sport.

It was a difficult loss for the reigning Premier League champions as Ollie Watkins easily got through their defense and tallied a hat-trick. Several other players for the Lions also stepped up offensively such as Jack Grealish scoring two consecutive goals in the 66th and 75th minute.

"So I texted them a long, long message which was pretty much my thoughts about the things which had happened and after that, I felt much better because then it was out and from that moment we could carry on and that's what we did,” Klopp shared.

He stressed that losing is not what they want as a club, but they want to use the humiliating defeat as a motivation to turn things around.

"Now we are here and we have had enough time to deal with it. Losing a game is the exact opposite of what you want, losing it 7-2 makes it of course worse but sometimes we have to show that it can be useful,” the 53-year-old manager said.

The current Premier League table has Liverpool sitting at 5th place with a record of three wins and one loss across four games played. They’re looking to recover from their previous defeat as they face Everton on Saturday.

"We have the chance to show that on Saturday lunchtime against Everton so that makes it really interesting because we face a team who is flying obviously and we got a proper knock. So now let's see who deals better with what," Klopp pointed out.
