KEY POINTS

  • Logan Paul will face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel
  • Paul defeating Reigns would be similar to David Arquette winning the WCW heavyweight championship
  • Regardless of a title or not, WWE knows that Paul is massive draw thanks to his connection with the crowd

Social media star Logan Paul is entering the weekend with a lot on his mind as he challenges Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWEUniversal Championship at the Crown Jewel live event.

While it is a tough fight for him, someone believes it will be best if he overcomes Reigns.

Conrad Thompson, co-host of former pro wrestling star Jeff Jarrett's "My World" podcast, thinks WWE would pull off a massive coup if Paul were to win the titles in Saudi Arabia.

"If you are in the wrestling circle online, you see things that say the average viewer of WWE programming is over 50 years old. If you want that to skew younger, you'd have to look pretty hard to find somebody who can bring a younger audience than Logan Paul. If that's what you're looking for, Logan Paul is the guy, and we need something to get wrestling in front of those folks," Thompson said.

He would later give out his fantasy booking on the situation in which Paul Heyman, currently serving as the "special counsel" to Reigns and his Bloodline faction, will help the internet sensation steal the victory over "The Tribal Chief" since it appears that the WWE superstar will go head-to-head with The Rock at WrestleMania 39.

In an ideal world, Thompson's claims make some sense since Paul has become one of the most recognizable names and faces around the world among the younger audience thanks to his presence on YouTube and on Vine, where he first started his career.

Paul has become a respected performer in the eyes of many WWE, and pro wrestling fans thanks to his ability to keep up with the industry's best performers like Rey Mysterio and The Miz during his matches with them.

However, a non-full-time wrestler taking off the title from WWE's biggest personality of this generation would be similar to when actor David Arquette won the WCW heavyweight championship in April of 2000–a decision that was widely hated by pro wrestling purists.

Thompson does not think that it would be a situation similar to that of Arquette's if WWE can book a good story around it.

Despite it being somewhat of a good idea to draw younger audiences in, there is still that mystique of sanctity and reverence around the big titles since it represents what the company is about and who the top dog is.

Paul winning would not only be hated by the most ardent of wrestling fans, but also those in the locker room since he basically skipped everyone else who had been doing it far longer than he has.

The social media influencer is a massive draw for WWE regardless of him having the titles or not because he has that same charisma and air of respect for the industry that former NFL punter-turned-pro-wrestler Pat McAfee does.

Regardless, only WWE knows what their plans are for the fans during Crown Jewel this Saturday, happening at the Mrsool Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
