Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has never beaten Tom Brady, but he will get a huge opportunity on Sunday. The Chargers travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, but Rivers might not be able to fully rely on his best running back in the huge matchup.

Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has been battling knee troubles since November. He appeared to aggravate his knee again in the Chargers’ wild card win over the Baltimore Ravens, but he did come back to the game.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that Gordon had a minor knee sprain, but he would still be available for the Chargers.

Once on track to rush for 1,000 yards in the regular season, Gordon missed time and was less effective upon his return. He has rushed for 123 yards on slightly more than three yards per carry in his past three games, including the playoff win against the Ravens.

The good news for Los Angeles is that the team finally added tight end Hunter Henry to the active roster. The third-year pro missed the entire regular season with a knee injury, but could make his debut against the Patriots.

The Patriots are narrow favorites to win the game.
