  • Antoine Griezmann reportedly wants a transfer to the Premier League
  • Manchester United is emerging as a potential destination for the Frenchman
  • Griezmann has also figured in a spat with Lionel Messi

Barcelona has become a hostile place for Antoine Griezmann after strange differences strained the relationship between the French footballer and his teammates at Camp Nou. With things turning from bad to worse, Griezmann could be on his way out. And based on reports, the 29-year-old may find himself in the Premier League soon as Manchester United is reportedly interested to “rescue” him.

Nishant Narayanan of Everything Barca cited a report from Mundo Deportivo, which claimed Griezmann’s altercation with Quique Setien following Tuesday’s match against Atletico Madrid is the last straw that would force the exit of the Frenchman from Spanish club for Man United. Barca settled for a 2-2 draw after the match that has seen Griezmann play just in the final two minutes.

The warlike atmosphere inside Barcelona’s dressing room is an added insult to injury bugging Josep Maria Bartomeu, who has been dealing with the club’s financial strain caused by the Coronavirus.

But amidst the interest from United, the 57-year-old executive is keeping another target on his table.

With Griezmann appearing to be irreconcilable with the Blaugrana, Bartomeu is expected to utilize the disgruntled forward instead as an exchange asset in his ploy to land Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan.

“The current transfer market has been affected financially due to the ongoing pandemic which makes it difficult to find any possible suitors for an expensive player like Griezmann. While the French international desires to remain at Camp Nou, it is not outside the realm of possibilities to believe that the board will look to sell him to make a monetary gain, as they have done already with Arthur Melo,” Narayanan wrote.

“The World Cup winner is reportedly ready to move to the Premier League after his latest quarrel with the coach, Quique Setien, during the clash against Atletico Madrid where Griezmann warmed up for 35 minutes, only to be brought in for the last two minutes of the match.”

It was like a dream turned to a nightmare for Griezmann, who entered Camp Nou with a lot of promise in 2019 after Barcelona took a gamble on him by paying his €120 million buy-out clause from Atletico Madrid. The risk obviously did not yield desired returns with him even figuring in a spat with the club’s star captain Lionel Messi.
