KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United recently secured a Champions League berth
  • The club has a lot of history in terms of recruiting from Sporting Lisbon
  • Nuno Mendes and Eduardo Quaresma are two promising prospects for Manchester United

The manner a young Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon dominated Manchester United was enough for him to get signed by the historic club back in 2003. Years later, Manchester United is eyeing two promising talents from the same team, Eduardo Quaresma and Nuno Mendes.

The story of Cristiano Ronaldo rising as one of the greatest football players of all time started with his stint with Sporting Lisbon. Expectations are high for the alumni of the team as several stars also followed a similar path like Ronaldo’s. Stars such as Nani and Bruno Fernandes are also products of the Portuguese team and are known figures for the Red Devils.

Per Red Devil Armada, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team is looking to gather more promising talent from the Portuguese club and further deepen their roster. The addition of Quaresma and Mendes will be beneficial for the squad, as they possess incredible athleticism coupled with the amount of intensity Manchester United needs. The young duo is capable of moving well on the field that is seen as great defensive assets.

If the two are added to the team then they can develop even more under Soslkjaer’s guidance. Growth is possible for Quaresma and Mendes given how the young pair of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood has stepped up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season. Including young and high-potential talents to a team of rising stars can even further accelerate their maturity as players. The ceiling is high for Quaresma and Mendes provided their team's illustrious background.

Having the safety net of promising defenders is beneficial for Manchester United with how well the club has picked up in the last few weeks. The club now has entered an invigorated phase with key players such as Paul Pogba stepping up his game. To cap it all off, the Old Trafford-based squad recently ended the Premier League in dramatic fashion, as their 2-0 win over Leicester City was enough to seal a Champions League berth.

It will be interesting to see how Manchester United adjusts its lineup for the coming years and if they’ll be able to sign the teenage sensations Quaresma and Mendes moving forward.
