Manchester United suffered a lopsided 6-1 loss against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the Premier League. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players have been heavily criticized after their bad performance, with former United star Dwight Yorke among their critics.

Yorke pointed out that his former club is lacking proper leadership on the field. The former Champions League winner shared that Solskjaer should have harsh conversations with his players after their poor performance.

"The manager has to believe he can inject that energy. It looked a bit lackluster. We need some leaders. We need winners on the football pitch," Yorke told talkSPORT.

"Until we get that on a consistent basis, we seem to make one step forwards and two steps back at the moment. We need to find a way to be consistent," the former striker continued.

Expectations were high for Solskjaer when he was appointed club manager back in 2018. Developing their talent in how to handle a big loss like this is crucial for the team as it will show how the club acts under adversity.

"I’m not sure he’s going to get them by the scruff of the neck. He’s not a Roy Keane by any means. He has a different style of management but I expect him at least to be having some stern words," Yorke said of the United boss.

Considering Solskjaer was a big piece of Manchester United’s success as a player, the supporters of the Red Devils expect him to bring the same level to the team as a manager. One of the things that Yorke wants to see from Solskjaer is for him to bring out the intensity from his team.

"He has to address the players in no uncertain ways and get people to be pulling their weight in the team," Yorke added.

"I’m sure there will be some harsh words said. We haven’t seen this side of Ole but I’m sure he’s got that ruthlessness inside him as well," he concluded.

Solskjaer earlier described the humiliating loss as the worst day of his career as Manchester United’s coach, The Guardian reported. He emphasized that there are a lot of things that he has to reevaluate as a coach in order to bounce back from the big defeat.

Manchester United will look to recover in its upcoming Premier League bout against Newcastle on Saturday, Oct. 17, at St. James' Park.
