A Manchester United striker is certain his current situation isn’t doing him any good.

Edinson Cavani has not been able to join the Uruguay national team and has been stopped by Manchester United from traveling to the region due to new COVID-19 protocols issued by the British government.

After a week of silence, Cavani finally spoke to the Uruguayan soccer association’s online TV channel and admitted that he feels “sad and upset” over missing his nation’s upcoming three rounds of World Cup qualifiers, the Associated Press reported.

“We are exposed to decisions that are made in the organizations of some tournaments and leagues and any of the two decisions (traveling or not) would be bad for us,” Cavani said Thursday.

“We don’t get rich playing for our national teams,” he added. “We have a commitment with ourselves and a moral commitment to defend our country. We get rich by wearing the shirt of our national teams.”

Forced to comply with the British government’s rule, the English Premier League “reluctantly” prohibited players from traveling to “26 red-list” countries, including Uruguay.

Moreover, any Premier League player who returns to Britain from South America will have limited training and will have to “spend 10 days in hotel quarantine.”

“Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month,” the statement read. The clubs' decision, which is strongly supported by the Premier League, will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries in the September international window.”

It added, “This period takes into consideration 10 days of hotel quarantine on return to England but does not include any additional time that would be required for players to regain match fitness.”

An earlier report said Cavani has been “unhappy” about becoming a castaway, and being left out of the Manchester United squad that traveled to Southampton on Aug. 22 certainly added to the 34-year-old’s “dissatisfaction.”

With the pressure rising, the Red Devils are hoping Cavani will not be tempted to leave for another club and will decide to stay, especially with another world-class striker Cristiano Ronaldo coming in, the report added.

Cavani was quick to make his mark on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. He finished last season with an impressive tally of 10 goals and three assists.

However, it is becoming apparent that there will be certain changes in Manchester United’s frontline when Ronaldo finally arrives. This could also mean that Cavani is likely to compete for playing time.
