Fast-food giant McDonald's is bringing a twist on one of its classics. A chicken Big Mac will soon get a test run in the U.S. after gaining success in the U.K.

The chicken Big Mac will be available for a limited time in August at some Miami restaurants. The chicken Big Mac will include the same ingredients as the beef version but with tempura chicken patties. It will include the signature Big Mac sauce, pickles, shredded lettuce and a slice of American cheese.

"We're always looking to give our fans more ways to enjoy the classic menu items they know and love," McDonald's said in a statement.

"Made with two crispy tempura chicken patties, our iconic Big Mac sauce, and topped off with pickles, shredded lettuce, and American cheese, this sandwich brings some of our fans' favorite flavors together for the perfect bite," the company said.

The chicken Big Mac was introduced in the U.K. earlier this year and sold out in less than two weeks.

McDonald's noted that test items may not become permanent menu options across the nation.

"While not everything we test makes it on our U.S. menus, we'll use this time to gather feedback from both customers and restaurant crew as we consider opportunities to offer more delicious options in the future," the company said in an email to the Washington Post.

The U.S. saw a chicken sandwich craze in 2019. Dubbed the "Chicken Sandwich Wars," chain restaurants Popeyes and Chick-fil-A saw a sharp increase in attention and revenue.

Last week, data from the Department of Agriculture showed there was an ease in the chicken shortage that had caused prices to surge. Wholesale chicken wing prices dropped to about $1.30 per pound from a peak price of about $3.25 per pound during the pandemic in May 2021.
