Former MLB star Alex Rodriguez is trying to find success in another professional sports league, reportedly on the verge of buying the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves with billionaire Marc Lore. While the attempted purchase has made national headlines, it doesn’t seem to make much difference to one of the team’s top players.

When Anthony Edwards was asked Tuesday about his thoughts on Rodriguez, the rookie acted oblivious to the legendary athlete’s accomplishments.

“Who is he?” Edwards asked, regarding Rodriguez. “Yeah, I don’t know who that is.”

Edwards acknowledged that he was aware that Rodriguez was possibly going to be the team’s new owner but said he didn’t know anything about baseball. Rodriguez responded to Edwards’ comment by jokingly introducing himself to the 19-year-old on Instagram.

It’s hard to believe that Edwards doesn’t know anything about Rodriguez, who has stayed in the limelight in retirement. Rodriguez is in a highly publicized relationship with Jennifer Lopez and appears on both ESPN and Fox as an MLB analyst.

Rodriguez’s off-the-field blunders and multiple performance-enhancing drug scandals also put him among the most famous athletes of the last two decades.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Edwards was 15 years old when Rodriquez retired from MLB. Edwards was only eight years old when Rodriguez won the 2009 World Series with the New York Yankees. Rodriguez made his MLB debut several years before Edwards was born.

Edwards is the favorite to win the 2021 NBA Rookie of the Year award. In his first season, Edwards is averaging 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.

Rodriguez and Lopez tried to purchase the New York Mets last year, but the couple was beat out by hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen.
