In “Do It Yourself,” Cam and Mitchell come to the conclusion that their family has become so dependent on technology. In order to teach Lily the importance of hard work, the couple will ask the young girl to stop using all types of technologies. However, the result of their plan will backfire when they themselves have a difficult time practicing what they preach.

Elsewhere, Phil (Ty Burrell) will encourage Jay (Ed O’Neill) to invest in a property that he has always wanted to develop. In fact, Jay just can’t stand Phil no matter what he does, but he is left with not much of a choice since Phil is married to his daughter, Claire (Julie Bowen).

Meanwhile, Claire will finally meet the famous chef that she’s been obsessed with. “Legends of Tomorrow” star Victor Garber has been cast to appear in episode 13 as Chef Dumont. Claire’s obsession with Chef Dumont results in her desire to cook Sunday dinner for her entire family. However, this will not turn out well because her dishes are not as tasty as she thinks.

In other news, Jay becomes extremely jealous over Gloria’s (Sofia Vergara) closeness with Coach Gary (Payton Manning). Gloria will hire the coach to help her youngest son, Joe (Jeremy Maguire), become more involved in different types of sports. Gloria will also rely on Coach Gary for help in fixing some parts of her home.
