Anthony Davis signing with the Los Angeles Lakers is currently the biggest deal this offseason. However, sources have started pointing out reasons why the massive deal could force the Lakers repeat a gamble they once made.

Upcoming free agent Anthony Davis is finally set to become a Laker this offseason. The Lakers traded Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks for Davis alone. And even though the All-Star center hasn’t played a game as a Laker yet, sources already assume that LA could have entered another Dwight Howard type of deal. A deal that sounded very promising but did not work out well.

According to ESPN, the Davis deal is a big gamble for the Lakers. This is due to the fact that Davis will be a free agent once again next summer, a period of time in which sources predict the All-Star will be much healthier and a much better player overall.

Plus, the history of Lakers with the Howard deal could come back and haunt them. Sources claimed that LA really likes chasing stars and would take risks just to get them. Although Howard and Davis are two different players, they were both the biggest names in the market during their free agency. LA evidently was not able to maximize Howard back then and the fear is that they wouldn’t be able to do it with Davis this time around as well.

Finally, some sources also think that the Lakers have given up too many assets which they can use in future deals in case the LeBron James and Davis team-up turns out to be a disaster. Not to mention that the deal included Pelicans taking advantage of the no. 4 pick, a rookie that could have worked out with LA’s young core.

Aside from these, in-game conflicts can also blow Davis’ one year contract with the Lakers as sources see a potential scenario ofbLeBron bringing out the wrong attributes in Davis. With the way James is playing, sources think that the King could unlock more of Davis as an outside threat, but unfortunately, AD is not designed that way and can work more efficiently inside, according to Sporting News.

Rumor has spread that the Purple and Gold has set its eyes on Hornets All-star guard Kemba Walker as the next top prospect. Adding Kemba with James and AD could possibly change the way this deal has been predicted.
