  • Andre Drummond is clueless on where the "Big Penguin" nickname originated
  • Old videos of him wearing a penguin suit have surfaced
  • Drummond is trying to keep the Lakers afloat with Lebron James and Anthony Davis still out of action

NBA players have been christened nicknames, something that normally comes out of people’s mouths.

Andre Drummond of the Los Angeles Lakers has yet to get one, but it appears he has finally been branded as the “Big Penguin.”

Considering his personality and brand of basketball, linking the “Big Penguin” name to the 6-foot-10 center is a bit off.

It was not only until LeBron James came up to Drummond and asked him if he was the “Big Penguin” did he realize that this is what some people are calling him.

Drummond revealed that conversation when he was asked about it by Harrison Faigen on the Silver Screen and Roll.

"Bron came up to me one day and said Yo, is your nickname Big Penguin? I said, man, I don't know where that came from or how it started or who came up with the name. All I know is that someone must have found out that penguins are one of my favorite animals, and kind of put two and two together,'" Drummond explained.

While the true origin of the nickname given to Drummond has yet to be figured out, some past videos of him wearing a penguin suit could offer some explanation.

He wore the suit on several occasions. In one of the videos, he said that he was pretty fond of penguins and called it his favorite animal.

But as explained on CBS Sports, these videos do not necessarily mean that they are where the “Big Penguin” name originated from. The only thing sure is that Drummond is fond of penguins.

Regardless of what name Drummond is getting, the more important matter right now is that he helps the Lakers in their quest for an NBA title this season.

James and Anthony Davis have yet to return, and the Lakers are banking on Drummond, Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell among others to keep their campaign afloat.

Beyond this season, it remains to be seen if the All-Star center will stay in Los Angeles.

The money would be a problem and most know that the Lakers are not exactly financially flexible due to the salaries owed to their top stars.
