The Carolina Panthers are likely to still be without Cam Newton when they play the Arizona Cardinals. The 2015 NFL MVP remains in a walking boot after suffering a mid-foot sprain in the preseason. Based on the latest reports, the 30-year-old allegedly re-aggravated the injury.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers should know more about the real score behind Newton soon. A good sign would be to see him at practice on Wednesday, although the chances of that are not looking so good.

With that looming scenario, Panthers coach Ron Rivera may be left with no recourse but to turn to someone else to do quarterbacking duties. According to The Chicago Tribune, Kyle Allen will likely get his second starting nod. Rookie Will Grier will likely be also in consideration. The Panthers are 0-2 for the season, losing to the Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Does it change things (if Newton is out)? Yes, it changes things dramatically," Rivera said. "If we're going to go to end up going with Kyle for a while, yes, we have to find out who we are with him as the quarterback. And going on the road it is going to be a little bit of a challenge."

Newton is just one of many quarterbacks in the sidelines. But unlike Drew Brees, Nick Foles and Ben Roethlisberger, Newton has high chances of making a return for as long as heals up soon.

With the Panthers not spared from quarterback woes, the team could end up considering looking at the available talent in the free-agent market. One player that comes to mind is Colin Kaepernick. However, safety Eric Reid feels that while it makes sense, the chances of it happening are not looking so good.

"The Panthers have not approached me about Colin, but I would welcome that," Reid said. "As you alluded to, there are a lot of quarterbacks around the league who are in need of a quarterback. Colin is sitting by his phone."

And it appears that Rivera may have put a lid on that alternative. He feels that they have the right people already and that there is a reason why they were brought here.

"I don't think so," Rivera said. "The guys we have here, we brought them here for a reason."
