  • C. J. Uzomah declares that he will take a "chili bath" if the Bengals win Super Bowl LVI

Super Bowl LVI is only a few days away, and Cincinnati Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah is giving his side an incentive to win it all against the Los Angeles Rams.

“I'll take a bath in chili... I'm wearing swim trunks, but you put it in a swimming pool and I'll dive in there and I'll eat my way out," Uzomah boldly declared in a virtual press conference ahead of Super Bowl LVI.

The city of Cincinnati is renowned for its style of chili–a Mediterranean-spiced meat sauce developed by immigrant restaurant owners in the 1920s that was declared by the Smithsonian magazine as one of the “20 Most Iconic Foods in America” back in 2013.

Uzomah suffered a sprained left MCL in the first quarter of the Bengals’ AFC Championship match against the Kansas City Chiefs back on January 30.

There was reasonable doubt that Uzomah would not be able to play in the Super Bowl as the risk of further injuring his MCL was definitely on the table if he were to play.

But the 29-year-old from Auburn University knows that getting to the Super Bowl is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most players, and he is ready to risk it all for that one shot at helping the Bengals win its first-ever NFL title.

In an act of defiance of his situation, Uzomah took off his knee brace during the Bengals' fan rally on Monday, February 7 and declared that he would be playing in the Super Bowl.

Uzomah, being the Bengals’ primary tight end since he broke onto the scene back in 2018, is a key contributor to their offense and his partnership with quarterback Joe Burrow is a massive problem that the Rams will need to focus on defensively.

Burrow has major threats down the field with his wide receivers thanks to the emergence of rookie Ja’Marr Chase and sophomore Tee Higgins, but Uzomah can disrupt the opposing team’s defense by catching shallow passes to help move the chains.

The Bengals will be facing the heavily-favored Rams at Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 13 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
