KEY POINTS

  • Jadeveon Clowney is currently a free agent in the NFL
  • Teams have garnered interest in the three-time Pro-Bowler
  • However, his history with injuries remain as a concern

Jadeveon Clowney is one of the names to look out for in the NFL’s free agency market this offseason. The defensive end still hasn’t found a team despite proving in the past that he can contribute on the field. Clowney has been known for the defensive capabilities he brings to each team.

He’s been a serviceable player for the Houston Texans at the start of his career and had a recent one-year stint with the Seattle Seahawks.

Clowney has been one of the better athletes in the league and was selected as an alternate in the 2020 Pro Bowl.

Clowney is no stranger to success as he was a former College All-American in 2012 with the South Carolina Gamecocks football program.

He was drafted first overall in the 2014 NFL draft and has made a huge impact on the field ever since he entered the league. The 27-year-old is already a three-time Pro-Bowler and has been named second-team All-Pro in 2016.

Rumor has it that teams such as the New York Giants and New York Jets are looking at signing the sixth-year player. Unfortunately, the current coronavirus situation has made it difficult to conduct physical examinations. Assessing his physical condition is not as feasible given the difficult time.

Speculation around the league indicates that this is one reason why Clowney hasn’t been able to sign with a team. Per SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano by way of Bleacher Report, Clowney’s knee surgeries have been a major consideration.

"Many around the NFL have other concerns about Clowney, specifically the fact that he's had three knee surgeries in his six-year NFL career,” Vacchiano said.

His last one came following the 2017 season, but he also did miss three games with hip and groin injuries last year. Many teams—the Giants included, per sources—are very wary of making a big-money commitment to a player with that kind of injury history. Presumably, that has factored into the Jets' thinking as well, " he continued.
