More teams are having trouble scoring in the 2021 NFL season as compared to last year. While only four teams finished 2020 averaging fewer than 20 points per game, nine teams are failing to score more than 20 points per contest in Week 8. The Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals are the only teams putting up at least 30 points per game.

Here are the five best over/under bets for Week 8. Betting odds come from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills Over 49.5

During Buffalo’s six-game winning streak against Miami, the Bills have scored more than 30 points in every contest, averaging 38.7 points per game. Every one of those matchups featured at least 52 points with the exception of Buffalo’s 35-0 shutout of Miami in Week 2. Tua Tagovailoa left the game early with an injury, but he’s played better since returning from IR. Josh Allen has a 108.1 career passer rating against the Dolphins.

Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets Over 42.5

Cincinnati could come close to going over the total by itself. New York’s defense exceeded expectations very early in the season, but it’s struggled as the schedule has gotten more difficult. Excluding Tennessee, which didn’t have its A.J. Brown or Julio Jones against the Jets, New York hasn’t faced a top-15 offense. The Bengals are seventh in scoring and third in yards per play. New York’s offense can’t be any worse with Mike White replacing Zach Wilson.

San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears Over 39.5

As bad as Chicago’s offense has been, it would be hard to bet the under in a game featuring a total of less than 40. Another bad performance by Justin Fields could mean more points for the 49ers as sacks and interceptions turn into short fields for Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers’ offense. The loss of Khalil Mack, the team leader in sacks, is a significant blow to the Bears’ defense. San Francisco has surrendered at least 28 points in three of its last four games.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Seattle Seahawks Under 43.5

The Seahawks might not play a single high-scoring game until Russell Wilson returns from injury. Pete Carroll seemingly wants to establish the run more than ever with Seattle passing the ball 45.8% of the time (lowest in the NFL) in Geno Smith’s two starts. Jacksonville allows just 3.8 yards per carry. The Seahawks are averaging 15.7 points during their three-game losing streak. Even as the Jaguars have played better, they still haven’t scored more than 24 points in any contest.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints Over 49.5

Look for both teams to air it out in a matchup between two of the NFL’s most dominant run defenses. When the game is put in Jameis Winston’s hands, it usually means a ton of points, whether it’s his team or the opponent that is scoring. No one has been able to slow down Tom Brady, who leads the league in both passing yards and touchdowns. The quarterback should be much better against New Orleans after struggling in three games with the Saints last season.
