KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United has improved in the last couple of months with the introduction of Bruno Fernandes to the club
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team saw a major decline in the usage of Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones
  • Lingard and Jones are speculated targets of West Ham United

The momentum Manchester United has garnered in recent months can be attributed to the team’s rejuvenated sense of motivation. However, there are those who aren’t given as many opportunities in the club as compared to others. These include Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones, who are rumored to have garnered interest from West Ham United.

With Manchester United boasting a revitalized sense of cohesiveness as a team, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has slowly put more faith in his developing stars. Players such as Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood has benefitted from the culture of the club. Stars such as Paul Pogba has gained a newfound strength as an offensive lead ever since the team signed Bruno Fernandes. There are a lot of reasons for the squad’s current success but this has unfortunately left out some players including Lingard and Jones.

The two still have a lot of football left in them and are capable of stepping up under high-pressure situations. For Lingard, the 27-year-old has proven before that he’s a worthy winner to suit up for any squad. In 204 appearances, Lingard has scored 31 goals and tallied 20 assists. While it’s expected that the former English FA Cup Winner should be peaking in his career, his numbers and playing time have seen an abrupt halt this season.

A similar case can be made for Jones who has barely seen any action for the team. The last time the 28-year-old stepped foot on the field for the team was earlier in January against Burnley. The center back has suited up for 224 appearances for Manchester United but now doesn’t fit in as much with the current system.

Per Red Devil Armada, these two are still highly sought after talents with West Ham eyeing the pair to suit up for their club. Having the caliber of these two transfer to Stratford can serve as a fresh start for the athletic duo. They still possess great physical attributes, as they remain young and athletic assets for any team to have.

It will be interesting to see how Manchester United adjusts its lineup for the coming years and if they’ll be able to give Lingard and Jones a fresh start on a different club.
