The bridge itself was tested by authorities who checked the structural integrity of the bridge before opening it again to vehicles.

The boat that was carrying 129 passengers and crew at the time of the crash, it hit a supporting structure of the bridge and another boat was needed to continue the cruise. The ship was constructed in 1995 and has a panoramic bar, sauna, and library among other amenities for guests.

Passengers on board were able to continue their trip after the travel company they were with sent a new boat for them to board. Firefighters and officials in Germany responded to the scene with boats and another ship assisted injured passengers as well, the BBC reported.

As of Wednesday, it was unclear what caused the boat to collide with the support of the bridge.
