  • A haul by Son Heung-Min gave Tottenham Hotspur the win against Southampton
  • Harry Kane assisted all of Son’s goals
  • Jose Mourinho shared that Kane should have been recognized as the man of the match

Notching a haul wasn’t enough for Son Heung-Min to gain Jose Mourinho’s praise as the man of the match given Harry Kane’s elite offensive performance. The veteran manager jokingly snuck a comment in Son’s post-game interview that Kane deserved to be called the best player of the game.

Rare occurrences of scoring four goals in one game are worthy of praise and attention at any level. With the Spurs’ 5-2 win over Southampton, Son dominated offensively as he took advantage in every situation he can get.

In the post-match interview, Mourinho stepped in and quipped that Kane should have also been recognized for his performance.

“Man of the match, Harry Kane," Mourinho told BBC Sport.

Despite dominating on the pitch, Son agreed with his manager’s comments. The 28-year-old shared the same sentiments and continued to praise Kane for his key passes in the match.

“It’s a big honor to score four goals in the Premier League. They were four amazing assists from this guy, I think he deserved man of the match today. We’ve been working together for five years now and we know what we like. We work so hard to have a good relationship on and off the pitch. I hope there are many more to come,” Son shared after the game, as reported by The Guardian.

Everything was clicking for Son as Kane capitalized on the situation to facilitate the offense.

“We knew there would be space in behind; we talked about it before the game. One of the passes I didn’t even look really, I just put it into the space because I knew he’d be running in behind. I’m proud of him for his first Premier League hat-trick,” Kane shared.

Overall, Kane finished with four assists and even tallied one goal on the 82nd minute of the match.

This makes Kane only the seventh player in Premier League history to tally at least four assists in a game.

The victory gives the Spurs their first win of the Premier League season as they bounced back from their opening game loss.
