KEY POINTS

  • Liverpool is keeping tabs with Ezri Konsa, and the club may make a move this summer
  • Aston Villa plans to sit down and talk a new deal with Konsa
  • Tottenham is also looking to ramp up a bid for Konsa this summer

Liverpool is aware that at some point, they need to infuse young blood into their lineup.

One target said to be on their list is Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa, the same player that Tottenham has in mind.

For the Reds, it makes sense to move in on the 23-year-old considering their defensive line has been marred by injuries. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are down with long-term injuries and the need to find fresh legs is urgent.

So far, Jurgen Klopp has managed to add a couple of players in Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak.

Davies was signed from North End, while Kabak was taken in on loan until the end of the season.

Of the two, 20-year-old Turkish player is the one that already saw action. Kabak played when the Reds fell to Leicester City, 1-3, on Saturday.

Looking ahead, Liverpool will need to find more able bodies as they are now behind 13 points behind Manchester City in the English Premier League.

As of this writing, they may only be keeping tabs with Konsa, but a serious move on the English player has yet to ensue. That could all change in the summer if Liverpool plans to beef up their defensive options, The Athletic reported.

However, the race for Konsa will be a tough one for the Reds with the Hotspur also in pursuit of the center-back’s trail. It is not hard to see why.

Konsa has been one of Villa’s key players, performing well under the watch of Dean Smith. He has meshed well with Tyrone Mings, forming a due that gives the Lions some solid defense.

Smith bared in December that they plan to hold talks with the English player soon. But with Tottenham and Liverpool expressing interest, it may all boil down to which club can give Konsa the best package.

Former retired Liverpool James defender Carragher has been keeping tabs on Konsa, Sky Sports reported.

“I really feared for them last season because I thought they were going to go down really,” Carragher stated. “When they came back at the end of last season, it was like a completely different team, a different type of organization and a lot stronger defensively.”
