  • Tammy Abraham will most likely get a new contract if Chelsea intends to keep him
  • Chelsea coach lauds Abraham's contributions
  • Chelsea remains perfect since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard

Thomas Tuchel has a lot on his plate as he tries to steer Chelsea in a better direction.

He has tons of talent at his disposal, too much that he could be overlooking some good players. One name that he could lose is Tammy Abraham.

Abraham became the first forward to score for Tuchel, who took over from Frank Lampard.

Though the 23-year-old still has two-and-a-half years left in his current deal with the Blues, pundits feel that he deserves to be given a new deal soon.

Chelsea activated the clause in Abraham’s contract that meant extending his stay for another year. But beyond that, the Blues will have to work on assembling a new deal if they intend to keep the English football player.

Tuchel clears that this has no bearing on his decision-making when it comes to picking who will be on the field.

"I’m not aware of the contract situations of my players because I don’t want to be involved with judging this when I’m making the decisions of who’s playing and who’s not," Tuchel quipped.

For now, the German coach is trying to give all his players a chance and the right playing time to perform.

However, he did not mince words when he lauded Abraham’s career and the performance he is giving when his number is called.

"I like that he made his way on the loans and overcame obstacles in his career when he went on loan. He always scored for his teams. He was always there. He has the spirit to make it at Chelsea. This is one of the toughest challenges you can face but he is ready for that,” Tuchel stated.

In a way, that statement tells a lot and could at some point factor in as far as new contract talks with Abraham is concerned.

But for now, Tuchel prefers to get the most out of his players coming in the middle of the season and seeing who can stand out.

"The good thing about arriving in the middle of the season is you don’t lose your head by thinking about other players; you focus your energy on developing the potential that we have. And we have potential,” he explained.
