That’s disgusting! Seeing a rat at a fast food joint is bad enough, but seeing one jumping into a pan of boiling oil used to cook French fries and frying itself to death is beyond gross.

This unbelievable incident was caught in a 39-second long video taken Sunday morning. It took place at the Whataburger restaurant in Bastrop, Texas located 30 miles southeast of Austin. A customer named Brushawn Lewis took the video and posted it on Facebook.

Employees had spotted the small mouse lurking at one of the food preparation counters. They were discussing how to remove the rodent and the video begins showing the rodent scurrying to hide behind a styrofoam container.

“How do you pick it up?” asks someone. “Aw, man,” groans another.

A female employee moves in to either try to shoo away or catch the rat.

“Try to catch this rat. Don’t overwork it,” says someone.

The mouse then scurries about the countertop to evade the female employee. It moves to the edge of the countertop before jumping off it and into the boiling oil in a deep fryer at an adjacent counter.

“Eekkk!” shouts a woman. More screams.

“Now, it’s fried!” shouts a male employee as he holds his hands to his head upon seeing the mouse fry itself to death.

Two female employees can be seen holding a hand to their mouths (as if to suppress vomiting).

“Oh, God!” exclaims another person.

Lewis later wrote, "This s--- is crazy I'm at whataburger in Bastrop Tx. It's a damn rat just out in the open! But it did get deep fried! Smdh (shakin’ my damn head)."

Whattaburger responded to this embarrassing episode by announcing a cleansing of pests at the restaurant.

“At Whataburger, cleanliness and food safety are top priorities for us. In this instance, we closed the restaurant out of an abundance of caution and notified pest control,” said a statement from Whataburger.

“The entire restaurant has since been cleaned and sanitized. We addressed this situation as quickly as possible, reinforcing procedures with our Family Members.”

All the customers at this restaurant were given a refund.
