Stocks trimmed losses on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve said the U.S. economy expanded modestly in January and through mid-February.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 10.25 points, or 0.08 percent, at 12,994.87. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dipped 1.11 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,371.07. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was off 5.03 points, or 0.17 percent, at 2,981.73.
