Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green has never been one to keep his thoughts to himself, and on Monday, the All-Star forward was at it again as he essentially blasted the NBA for its treatment of players.

Speaking to the media following the Warriors’ 129-98 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Green spoke his mind about how the players are subject to a “double-standard” when it comes to keeping professional.

“I would like to talk about something that’s bothering me, and that’s the treatment of players in this league,” Green said, before going into detail about the situation surrounding Cavaliers center Andre Drummond. “To watch Andre Drummond before the game sit on the sidelines and go to the back and come out in street clothes because a team is going to trade him, that’s bullsh*t.”

It was announced that the Cavaliers were not going to play Drummond because they will be trying to move the All-Star center.

Drummond played seven seasons with the Detroit Pistons before being traded in to the Cavaliers in the 2019-2020 season. This year, he started and played 25 games for the Cavs, averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.

Green then went on to compare Drummond’s situation to that of James Harden, who was traded to the Brooklyn Nets after eight seasons with the Houston Rockets.

Harden had publicly expressed his desire to be traded, but the Rockets tried to ride the season out with the former NBA MVP.

“When James Harden asked for a trade, he was castrated for wanting to go to a different team, and everybody destroyed that man, and yet a team can come out and say ‘Oh, we want to trade a guy, and then that guy is to go sit,’ and if he doesn’t stay professional, then he’s a cancer, and he’s not good in someone’s locker room, and he’s the issue,” Green stated.

Over the years, numerous NBA players have been caught off-guard when finding out that they have just been traded, some even finding out that they’ve just been dealt through social media.

For Green, this is something that needs to change.

“At some point, as players, we need to be treated with the same respect and have the same rights that the team can have because as a player, you’re the worst person in the world when you want a different situation," he stressed. "At some point, this league has to protect the players from embarrassment like that.”

Green went on to give examples of how players like Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving have been on the receiving end of unfair treatment.

“At some point, the players must be respected in these situations, and it’s ridiculous, and I’m sick of seeing it,” Green concluded.

In a similar situation, it was also announced on Monday that Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin would sit out while the team discusses trade or buy-out options.
