A CCTV camera footage captured the moment a man calmly pushed a woman cleaner onto railway tracks at a Hong Kong train station and then walked away casually, reports said Sunday.

The incident was widely shared on social media and has gone viral since then. The incident took place at the Yuen Long station of Hong Kong's Light Rail system.

A 56-year-old man, believed to be from Southeast Asian, was arrested Saturday morning in connection with the incident on the suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

In the video, the suspect is seen walking along the platform behind the victim who is waving to someone on the other side of the tracks. The man wearing a beige cap, green shirt, and brown trousers, suddenly shoves her in the back, causing her to fall off the platform after which he can be seen walking away without breaking stride.

The woman, 59, was seen lying face down on the tracks and later struggles to get up.

No train was approaching at the time of the incident.

A police spokeswoman said officers had arrested a man near the railway station on suspicion after the incident. “The woman suffered injuries to her jaw and was sent to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment,” she told the South China Morning Post.

The 59-year-old woman, who is believed to work as a cleaner at the station, was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident, where she was treated for injuries to the jaw.

Officers from the Yuen Long criminal investigation division have been investigating the incident and the motive behind the attack.
