World Heart Day is observed annually Sept. 29 to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and prevention of strokes.

The day was created by the World Heart Federation and World Health Organization in 1999 and was first observed the following year. Taking care of the heart has become even more important now due to the coronavirus pandemic as studies have shown a link between COVID-19 and cardiovascular diseases. The best way to keep the heart strong and prevent stroke is by eating healthy, staying active and quitting smoking.
