KEY POINTS

  • Roman Reigns is off the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event in Chicago, Illinois
  • Reigns had recently signed a new contract that guaranteed him fewer show dates
  • Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins could be the main attraction for Hell in a Cell

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been the company’s top draw ever since he turned heel in the middle of the pandemic era, but it is looking like WWE will also look to create other stars to possibly challenge his reign.

Prominent wrestling insider Dave Meltzer reported on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio mentioned that Reigns will not be performing at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event in Chicago, Illinois on June 5.

“Basically, Roman Reigns is not going to be on every pay-per-view. He’s off the Chicago show… He will be doing pay-per-views this summer,” said Meltzer as quoted by Ringside News.

Though Reigns will have a reduced workload, Meltzer later added that he is still booked to appear in other pay-per-views plus two stadium shows, which could be SummerSlam and Survivor Series, despite not being advertised for house shows.

It was recently reported that Reigns had signed a new long-term contract, but with the caveat that he will be working fewer house shows.

Meltzer’s latest update seems to confirm that fans will be seeing even less of the “Tribal Chief” on their TV screens.

While it is a disappointing development for the most ardent fans of Reigns, his seemingly part-timer status will potentially allow other superstars to shine while also getting more time to perform their skills inside the ring.

Booking a pay-per-view without the promotion’s top champion is going to be a mountain of a challenge for WWE since it will have about three weeks to generate storylines that will entice viewers to spend their Sunday watching the show.

As it stands, the ongoing feud between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins is looking like the main attraction for Hell in a Cell.

Other than that, it remains to be seen which superstars will be feuding with who.

One thing that is for sure though is that Reigns gets to stay at home during the upcoming pay-per-view, but watching with intent to see who could feasibly challenge him for his throne.
